The Bold & Naked studio in New York City is taking the natural essence of yoga to the extreme by offering co-ed, fully nude classes.
‘There are a lot of things that separate us in a normal yoga class,’ Vanessa Kennedy, an attendee, told Reuters. ‘But when we’re naked, it’s like we’re all the same.’

Instructors compel everyone to ‘find the strength to expose your vulnerability and connect to yourself and others on the deepest level’

‘Practicing yoga naked frees you from negative feelings about your body and allows [you] to be more accepting and deeper connected with yourself and the world around you.’

The goal is to allow students to “celebrate their bodies” and is not intended to be sexual in nature.

Apart from the lack of clothing, Bold & Naked is just like any other yoga class. Teachers will still place their hands on students’ bodies to correct posture and partner work is sometimes involved.

‘Sexual touching’ is strictly prohibited and some have been asked to permanently leave the studio. Bold & Naked has actually firmly stated on their site ‘IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN ORGASM, YOU ARE IN THE WRONG PLACE.’

But due to yoga’s sweaty, heart rate-enhancing nature, erections during the class do occur, but happen ‘rarely’. ‘Yoga moves a lot of energy throughout the body and sometimes erections happen. But once we start moving, there is no way an erection could be sustained, because of the physical nature of Vinyasa Yoga.’
