After only being in town for a few weeks, Rusty the red panda managed to escape from the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, D.C. He was on loan from a children’s zoo in Nebraska, but somehow managed to outwit his hosts.
When zookeepers realized Rusty had gone missing sometime before Monday morning, they frantically searched the zoo. Whispers reached the media, the Internet and the neighbors – a search was underway. The small, raccoon-like creature was spotted in a neighborhood not too far away from the zoo. Rusty was crawling through trash and investigating the area, completely safe.
Rusty, a red panda at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, ran for the hills down 20th Street NW in Washington, D.C.
Clambering through the bushes, spotted by the zoo’s neighbors.
Rusty made his way through Adams Morgan before being caught.
His last hurrah was running up a tree, away from his pursuers.
The team triumphantly escorting Rusty back to the zoo to be checked out.
Luckily, there wasn’t a scratch on him.
He had some fun…
But was pretty tired out from the day’s adventures.
Thankfully, a team rescued him and brought the little guy back to the zoo, ready to take a nap after all of his adventures.
