Let’s Talk National Parks With Gary Arndt From Everything Everywhere

· Written by
Today it is my great pleasure to interview Gary Arndt from Everything-Everywhere.com. Gary is one of the biggest names in the world of travel – he has visited every US state and territory and 130 other countries throughout all seven continents. Millions of people flock to Gary’s blog each year, with 125,000 Twitter followers, over 100,000 Facebook Likes, and over 120,000 people have him in Google Plus Circles. In fact, Everything Everywhere was named by Time Magazine as one of the Top 25 Blogs in the World in 2010.

Gary has visited over 125 US National Park Service Sites and it is truly an honor to have the opportunity to interview him today. He recently announced the North American National Parks Project, where he will be setting out on a journey to visit all of the National Parks of the United States and Canada.

Which US National Park is your favorite and what makes it stand out from the 400-some others?

It is hard to pick one. There are so many great ones and they are all different. Among my favorites are Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Volcanoes, Olympic, Death Valley and Carlsbad Caverns.

Are there any that you would consider a little overrated?

No, actually. I think they’ve done a good job picking parks. There are a lot of diverse and great spots in the US and the National Parks worldwide.

What is the craziest experience you’ve ever had at a National Park?

Nothing too crazy. I saw 115F degree temperatures in Death Valley, got to see some parts of Volcanoes NP that few people get to see, and I ran into a moose in Grand Tetons NP, but nothing that was exceptional.

What are some of the best meals that you have had at National Parks?

I can’t remember. I don’t visit national parks for food and most don’t have any special dining experiences. I usually just buy food at a grocery sort or eat at a cafeteria they might have on site.

Is there something that you always pack for National Park trips?

A camera. Weather and geography can change, but you’ll always want to take photos.

Do you have any tips for photographing National Parks?

Have your camera with you at all times. You never know what you’ll see or what will happen. You can’t take a photo if you aren’t prepared for  it.
