Stone Mountain

This quartz monzonite dome monadnock in Stone Mountain, Georgia, has an elevation of 1,686 feet. The famous carving depicts three figures of the Confederate States of America: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis.

Stone Mountain is more than 5 miles in circumference at its base, and is surrounded by the Stone Mountain Park. The summit of the mountain can be reached by a walk-up trail or by the Skyride aerial tram. We like to hike up the mountain and take the tram back down (for a reduced rate, compared to taking it both ways) to get the best of both worlds. We also like to stay on property at their inn which is the cheaper of their two hotels, offers huge rooms, and is located in the best location, walking distance to Stone Mountain. Prices seem to average $240 for their cheaper hotel and $220 for their more expensive hotel.
